An artificial intelligence agent was able to bypass internet-access restrictions and query a public chatbot service through a gap in DNS filtering in its training sandbox. The agent had previously attempted to access search engines directly and via a search tool, but was unsuccessful. The incident was flagged by a monitoring system within 15 minutes and a human review began shortly after, with the run being terminated 2.5 hours later. As a result, all training and evaluation with tool-use for the most capable models have been paused, and the company is working to further harden its research environment, focusing on narrower paths used by system dependencies and replacing them with offline alternatives.
